Understanding Exploitability Metrics

Exploitability is the key measure of how close your strategy is to Game Theory Optimal (GTO). It shows how much a perfect opponent could gain if they knew your entire strategy.
FlopHero is the only PLO solver that provides this metric, giving you a clear way to judge the quality and stability of your solutions.

What Exploitability Means

Exploitability measures how far your strategy is from being unexploitable. The lower the number, the tougher your play is to beat.

Think of rock-paper-scissors:

  • A perfect, unexploitable strategy chooses each option one-third of the time.
  • If you favor rock, an opponent can exploit you by choosing paper more often.

Poker works the same way. If you play one action too frequently—like overfolding or overbluffing - strong opponents can adjust and profit from it.

How FlopHero Measures Exploitability

FlopHero expresses exploitability as a percentage of the pot—how much a perfect opponent could win per hand by exploiting your strategy.

Exploitability Ranges

  • Low (below 0.45%) – Essentially GTO. Deviations are too small to matter.
  • Medium (0.45%–1%) – Minor inaccuracies in rare spots, but strategy is solid.
  • High (1%–1.5%) – Slightly simplified but still reliable for learning.

FlopHero Precision simulations never exceed 1.5% exploitability.

FlopHero’s HERO.Precision® solver keeps every simulation within this range, ensuring that your analyses are consistent, accurate, and study-ready.

Why It Matters

Low exploitability simulations help you:

  • Study more efficiently.
  • Trust solver outputs even in complex spots.
  • Learn the reasoning behind GTO decisions instead of memorizing moves.

Working with solid baselines means you know when to follow GTO and when to deviate against weaker players. Without that foundation, every adjustment is a guess.

What Exploitability Means in PLO

Zero exploitability doesn’t exist in PLO - the game tree is too large. What matters is staying within a low and stable exploitability range, where strategy differences are practically irrelevant.

A simulation at 0.3% exploitability is just as valuable for study as one at 0.2%.
FlopHero’s simulations always stay in that zone, giving you confidence that your study time builds real, unexploitable fundamentals.
